Carnaval de Quebec

Canada gives its fearsome winters an urban setting – and more than a hint of flair – via the Quebec Winter Carnival. One of the world’s largest winter festivals, regularly pulling in over one million visitors, the Carnaval sees ice sculptures dotted across Quebec City, while a host of other merriments – from a masquerade ball to “bikini ice baths” – help to dispel the darkness of the season. The 2016 festival runs from January 29 to February 14.
