Temple of Heaven

Its beautiful three-tiered pagoda is one of the symbols of the city, and one of its most stunning sights. The Temple of Heaven is located southeast of the city; it’s an ensemble of religious buildings, set in a beautiful city park. ‘Temple of Heaven’ is the name of the whole complex; its centerpiece is the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the famous circular three-tiered wooden pagoda. This was the destination of the yearly imperial procession that culminated with a sacrifice to the Heavens. Nowadays, it’s worth a visit to see elderly Chinese play mahjong in the park or practice calligraphy with giant brushes on the stone floor.
