BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN MAIN SEASON APRIL - SEPTEMBER:
Ferry from Fiskepirterminalen in Stavanger to Tau and corresponding bus to Preikestolen Fjellstue where you start the hike. See documents on this page to download timetables.
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN LOW SEASON OCTOBER - MARCH:
Ferry from Stavanger to Tau and corresponding bus to Jørpeland. The remaining part of the way is by taxi from Jørpeland to Preikestolen Mountain Lodge (around 9 kilometres).
Transport description:
ON YOUR OWN BY CAR (ALL YEAR):
Drive to Lauvvik via Rv 13 National Tourist Route Ryfylke, cross with ferry to Oanes (8 minutes) and continue along Rv 13 and follow the signs to Preikestolen. Or go by ferry from Stavanger to Tau (40 minutes) and drive south on Rv 13 following signposting.
With car: Nicest trip: drive to Lauvvik on Rv13, cross by the ferry to Oanes and continue along Rv13 (tourist route Ryfylke) and follow the signs. Or cross by the ferry from Stavanger to Tau, continue south on Rv13 and follow the signs to Preikestolen
With ferry/bus: Ferry from Fiskepirterminalen in Stavanger to Tau and in the season corresponding bus to Preikestolen Mountain Lodge. Off season the bus stops at Jørpeland and from there you travel by taxi 9 km.
Ferry and bus to Preikestolen Fjellstue (Pulpit Rock Mountain Lodge) where the hike to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) starts. The hike lasts around two hours one way. The height difference is 350 metres.
Remember hiking shoes, warm clothing, packed lunch and something to drink. Tickets from the tourist information in Stavanger or directly on bus.
