Just off the coast of Atlit in Israel, the remains of a small village,
dubbed Atlit-Yam, was found 12 meters below sea level and covering an
area of 40,000 square meters. What’s more is that this is a Neolithic
site and dates back to between 6900 and 6300 BC and signals times
pre-pottery.It is one of the oldest and largest sunken settlements ever found,
providing important insights on the daily lives of ancient populations.
Amongst the dozens of human skeletons that lay undisturbed in their
graves, and the various stone, bone, and flint artifacts, it is the
seven megaliths that stand between 1 – 2 meters high in a semicircle
that are the most fascinating.
